Everything you need to know before you commit
A resin bound driveway is a hand-trowelled surface of UV-stable clear resin mixed with kiln-dried natural aggregate, laid 15–18mm thick onto a properly prepared permeable base. The finish is seamless, smooth underfoot, weed-resistant and SUDS-compliant, meaning surface water drains through the surface rather than running off into the road.
Homeowners in Basingstoke, Fleet, Farnborough, Winchester and across Hampshire who want a premium finish that looks better than tarmac, is cleaner than gravel and is easier to maintain than block paving. Ideal for family homes, executive properties, wheelchair access, and any driveway where kerb appeal and drainage both matter.
If your existing drive is cracked tarmac, weed-infested block paving, worn gravel, or you're widening for a second car, resin bound is the go-to modern surface. It's also the fastest way to comply with planning rules for driveways over 5m² because it drains on the spot.
Resin looks simple but it isn't. 90% of resin failures we're called to fix, colour blooming, delamination, ponding, edge cracking, trace back to a poor sub-base or the wrong resin-to-aggregate ratio. We build the base first, get the moisture content right, and use UV-stable resin systems only.
What happens if you delay, or hire the wrong crew
Resin has a reputation for going wrong because too many installers skip the boring bits. A cheap quote today usually means a driveway you'll be paying to rip up in 2–3 years, and drainage problems that can undermine the entire foundation of your surface.
Risks of putting it off
- Standing water leading to slip risk in winter and moss/algae growth in summer
- Cracking and shrinkage where the sub-base wasn't compacted in the right lifts
- UV-yellowing on non-aromatic resin systems, especially on south-facing drives
- Failed drainage causing water to migrate towards the house and damage foundations
- Weed growth through the edges where restraints weren't concreted in
Common mistakes homeowners make
- Choosing on price alone instead of asking to see the sub-base spec in writing
- Laying resin over old tarmac without checking bond strength or crack repair
- Skipping edge restraint concrete because it's out of sight
- Trusting one photograph on a leaflet rather than a real site inspection
- Not asking what happens if the surface fails within the guarantee period

Free site visit and measure-up
Charlie visits your property, measures the area, checks levels and drainage, and talks you through the aggregate options in daylight so you can see the real colour, not a website swatch.
- 02
Written quote within 24–48 hours
You get a fixed written quote covering excavation, sub-base spec, edging, resin system, aggregate blend, drainage and cleanup, no hidden extras, no verbal promises.
- 03
Excavation and ground preparation
We excavate to the correct depth, remove all spoil, and lay MOT Type 1 sub-base compacted in engineered lifts. Any drainage issues are corrected before a single grain of resin lands on your drive.
- 04
Base course and edge restraints
We install a permeable open-graded asphalt base course or concrete base as the design requires, plus concreted edge restraints so the surface stays crisp for the long term.
- 05
Resin mix, trowel and cure
Resin and aggregate are mixed on site in a forced-action mixer at the correct ratio, hand-trowelled to a seamless finish, then cured, you'll be walking on it within 4–6 hours.

Sign-off and 10-year workmanship guarantee
We walk the finished drive with you, hand over aftercare guidance, and issue your written guarantee. If anything's not right, we come back, that's the promise.
The measurable benefits you get
Permeable and SUDS-compliant
Drains on the spot with no need for planning permission on driveways over 5m². No standing water, no runoff, no puddles.
UV-stable and colour-fast
We only use aromatic-free, UV-stable resin systems that hold their colour for years, no yellowing, no blooming.
Weed and moss resistant
No joints for weeds to root into, no gaps for moss to colonise, a jet wash once or twice a year is genuinely enough.
Smooth, safe underfoot
Flat and even for pushchairs, wheelchairs, bikes and heels, while still offering slip resistance in the wet.
Built on an engineered base
You get an MOT Type 1 sub-base compacted properly, not a resin skim over an old surface. This is the difference between 3 years and 15.
10-year workmanship guarantee
Backed in writing, covered by £1M public liability insurance. Owner-led means one point of accountability from quote to cure.
Materials, methods and specification
The finish you can see is only 15–18mm of your driveway. The other 200–300mm underneath is what determines whether it lasts. Here's exactly what we build.
Aggregate options and blends
We offer natural aggregates in warm buffs, cool greys, blacks and rich browns, plus contemporary blends that read modern or traditional depending on the property. Popular Hampshire choices include Autumn Quartz, Silver Birch, Mocha, and Black Ice, all viewable as loose samples during your site visit so you can judge the tone in real light.
Resin system
We use aromatic-free, UV-stable polyurethane resins from established UK manufacturers. Aromatic resins are cheaper but yellow noticeably within 12 months on south-facing surfaces, we don't fit them, ever.
Sub-base and base course
For standard driveways, that's a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base (typically 150mm) topped with a permeable open-graded asphalt base course (typically 50mm). For heavier vehicles or over made ground, we design the base to the loads and hand you the spec in writing.
Edging and drainage
Concreted edge restraints, flush block, timber or Aco-style channel where the site demands it, with linear drains, soakaways and connections to existing gullies handled as part of the build, not billed as an afterthought.
Overlays vs full rebuild
Where you have an existing sound tarmac or concrete drive, we can overlay in resin at reduced disruption and cost. Where the base has failed, an overlay is throwing money away, we'll always tell you which category your drive is in during the site visit.
Residential vs commercial
Commercial and multi-property resin is designed to a heavier spec with thicker base courses and higher resin-to-aggregate ratios. We fit both, and the same 10-year workmanship guarantee applies.
